The VMS-XAI is a rugged GPS encoder hardware device for "geo-tagging" video with all Sony AI Hot Shoe video cameras.

Instantly collect geo-tagged point & path video and audio from mobile platforms, such as pedestrian, aircraft, vehicles, ATVs, trains and vessels. The use of geospatial multimedia provides a powerful decision support tool by allowing you to see "What is where, when." Everything has a place and time, if you can see it, you can map it. The potential applications of spatial multimedia are virtually unlimited.

With a compatible Sony hard drive or memory card based camcorder and the VMS-XAI, the resulting video is geospatially encoded and can be placed on a map. This geospatial multimedia can then be reviewed, analyzed, and acted upon using Red Hen's proprietary software GeoVideo for ArcGIS, MediaMapper 5.3 or the MediaMapper Server (MMS). The user can click on a map to start video playback at that location, view an image, open a file, or listen to audio notes recorded there. Multiple map layers (shape files) can be overlaid on the map, allowing a comprehensive visual analysis of the location where the video & audio were recorded.
