RouteScout is a plug-in that extends the functionality of the FalconView/TalonView mission planning and mapping environment by enabling new mission planning methods that exploit geo-spatial ground imagery and other multi-media. The objective of RouteScout is to facilitate the communication of detailed, relevant, audio visual information about a specific route or place from war fighters that are familiar with the location, to those that are not.
The RouteScout application accepts files with a specific form of geotagged media. A companion software, Red Hen's MediaGeoTagger, is provided to geotag video, photos and audio media, typically that is collected by handheld devices.
RouteScout leverages this media in the context of a map so as to provide situational awareness of the immediate surroundings or upcoming points of interest along a route. Utilizing RouteScout's Look-Ahead Video Awareness (LAVA) feature, presentation of the media can be driven by GPS so that media items are shown in a designated proximity to the user's current location. RouteScout also allows for the exporting of photos and audio as GPX data to commercial off-the-self (COTS) personal navigation devices, including Garmin NuviFones, Nuvis, and Colorados.

RouteScout functionality is accessed within FalconView via the custom tool bar. The icons in the tool bar bring unprecedented functionality to the mission planning software as illustrated in the table below.

Red Hen Systems is pleased to announce the upcoming release of RouteScout for FalconView with MediaGeotagger. RouteScout is a plug-in that extends the functionality of the popular FalconView mission planning and mapping software used by the US Department of Defense (DoD) and Allied countries around the world - enabling new mission planning methods and techniques that exploit geotagged multimedia collected from a variety of sources. MediaGeotagger is a new stand-alone, companion application that allows for intuitive data collection, with an automated process for geotagging of video, photos and audio data. Users then create “projects” that can be shared with other FalconView/TalonView users.
